| FlashGlass is the artist in all of us. A divorce lawyer by day and, at night....an artist relieves the stress of day by cutting and grinding beautiful stained glass. Glass is a remarkable medium. Demanding the artist bend and compromise to find the cut line that will reveal the object without breaking the glass. At first, just a hobby - making sidelight windows for my front door. Then the request came from a friend who considered me an artist. She had purchased twenty simple wooden chairs with metal legs and wanted her friends, who she considered to be artists, to each take a chair and make them an individual reflection of the artist or a tribute to Second Sunday. We did and the results are incredible. Some were experienced and professional artists - people who actually made a living selling their art. But several of us were closet artists, secretly producing art which we gave to friends and family; more like the hand knit scarves of our grandmother's time. The twenty of us, who came to be called the Chair Artists, produced amazingly different and unique chairs for Dian. Each month on the second Sunday Dian hosts a dinner for any and all who wish to come. She provides the soup and salad. Guests bring wine and dessert. Sometimes there are as many as seventyfive people there. People from all walks of life; writers, lawyers, financial analyists, educators and massage therapists. The gathering is intended to give a sense of community to our busy and scattered lives. So now Dian's generosity in hosting Second Sunday has inspired new artists and a community of people to continue creating. |
